Under development in late 1970s as outsize freighter, capable of take-off and landing from unprepared fields and provided front and rear loading access with fold-down hydraulic ramps. Prototype first flew on December 26, 1982 and type entered service in January 1986. Set several world records for pay load/distance flights. Total built to date : 55.
